NewYork-Presbyterian was ranked 5th in the nation in Cardiology & Heart Surgery in the U.S. News & World Report "Best Hospitals" 2025-2026 survey. This achievement reflects the expertise and leadership in cardiothoracic surgery for which NewYork-Presbyterian is known.

Weill Cornell Medicine/NewYork-Presbyterian offers a traditional two-year Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship training program. Upon successful completion, fellows are eligible for the American Board of Thoracic Surgery Examination. The fellowship program provides a solid foundation in conventional open heart surgery as well as minimally invasive approaches to cardiac and thoracic procedures. Fellows leave the program as outstanding technical cardiac and thoracic surgeons.

Institutional collaboration

Fellows complete a three- or six-month rotation at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), located across the street from Weill Cornell Medicine, giving them dedicated experience in lung and esophageal surgeries.

Innovative care

WCM is a leader in innovative approaches such as percutaneous valve surgery and minimally invasive approaches to lung and thoracic procedures, and features a robust ventricular assist device (VAD) program.
